France/ Italy: Mont Blanc/ Monte Bianco

on

The highest mountain in the Alps and the highest mountain in Europe.

The mountain looks very icy even on a summer day. You can see Mont Blanc in the borders between France and Italy. It is my first time to see a mountain covered with snow.

But since we were planning to continue our journey to Italy, we found out that we have to cross the border by going inside the mountain, Mont Blanc. The tunnel is 11.6 km long with a journey time of 17 minutes. We paid almost €50 to be able to cross the tunnel.

There are some guidelines if you want to use the tunnel. They are very careful because they dont want the accident to happen like they had in the 90’s, where a lot of people died because of fire.

Their strict guidelines include:

  • Minimum Speed limit: 50 km/h
  • Maximum Speed limit: 70 km/h
  • Minimum distance between vehicles: 150m
