The Fault In Our Stars

I love the book and I love the movie.  That’s the first thing I said after I read and watched the movie.

The book:

I’ve been searching for the English version of the book for the past months. Most of the time when I go to a bookshop, they only offer a copy of this book in Dutch language. I’m still one of those people who actually prefer real books than e-readers. I was super happy to have finally found the book.  I actually did not know what to expect about this book. I haven’t read anything about it but I was curious enough to give it a try since almost everybody is going gaga about it.

Honestly, I can’t put the book down. It took me several days to actually finish the story. I also brought my copy at work and find time to read it when im not that busy.  I love the story, it’s not the ordinary ones as I may say. It’s light on some parts and heavy most of the time. Tears come flowing, I am moved.

The movie:

When I knew that there would be a movie of The Fault In Our Stars, I said to myself that I have to go watch it. I have to watch it as soon as the movie arrives here in the Netherlands. I’m kinda proud that they shot a part of the film in Amsterdam in which where I used to go everyday.

After watching the movie, it made me think about the one I read.  They actually filled my imagination. I already expected that they will look the same. They gave justice to the book and I’m happy about it. I can’t stop sobbing at the cinema. I like the way on how they portray the characters in the book. Free flowing and it seems like it’s natural which I kinda like and not thinking that they are actors in a movie.

In real life, I kinda know how it is like to deal with people with cancer. I have handled patients with cancer and know people who are fighting and still fighting cancer. I hate how cancer is being a bitch to people, how it actually change people’s lives. I salute and respect the ones who are dealing with it. They are strong,  they are really strong people.

Dinner and Movie date with my Colleagues (Caroline’s Farewell Party)

For the short time that I have been with my colleagues, another one will leave 😦

At around 17:00- 00:00, 21st of June 2012: Cineworld Meetup! (in Beverwijk)

It’s my first time to be in Beverwijk and the first time to dine and watch here in Cineworld. So, I can say that I did really love the atmosphere of this place. No wonder why my colleagues choose this site to gather and eat.

Cineworld Beverwijk: The restaurant and Movie house.

Restaurant’s Interior

This restaurant have really tasty food. I loved the food! It is so tasty and as I may say its worth the price.

My appetizer (Chicken salad with goat cheese, cucumber, dried tomatoes, onion, wallnuts and honey mustard dressing)

My main dish (Two sticks of pork tenderloin with peanut sauce, kroepoek, potato salad and cucumbers)

My dessert (Profiterol- Big soes with icecream, advocaat, almond, whipcream and warm chocolate sauce)

So we actually stayed in the restaurant at around 18:00 til 21:30. We ate, took pictures and talked A LOT! Diet is kinda gone again from this dinner date. Im really so full and thankful.

After this big dinner of non-stop serving of food and drinks. Its time to watch some movie! We watched Snow White and The Huntsman. The movie was good as what I have seen. It is still a Snow White story but then in an extra-ordinary way. Love the effects and the way how they portrait the characters in the story.

Oh and I cant believe this. Normally, from what I think and know, it is not allowed to put your legs on the chair infront of your seat but well we did it! I felt at home from a 126 minutes of movie. Its 2 hours yes, and we got home at around 00:00.

Feet and Legs resting 😛

And so our day ends with wishes, hugs and see you at work!

Im not really sure if you will see this in the future, but I just want to say thank you for your helpfulness and being so friendly to me. You are one of the smartest colleagues I’ve met and also one of the funniest. I know, I may not be one of the person that you will always talk to or someone who will you contact always. I’m just glad that I have known you and luckily facebook will always keep us in touch.  🙂

Well I might visit you in Sittard one day and just have a small get together. I know you are happy right now and I am really proud for this big step you are going to face in Limburg. Life there I guess is not really different from here although you just have to learn a bit of the dutch dialect. 😛

So Caroline, ill try my best not to say bye bye. I would rather say… See you soon!

Veel liefs,

Jam 🙂

Movie: Hunger Games

Oh yes! Finally I have watched the Hunger Games in the cinema! It is my first time in 3 years to watch it here in The Netherlands. For the past years that I have been living here, I only got the time to watch movies on my laptop and or dvd’s.

I forced my boyfriend and our friend to watch the Hunger Games with me this sunday in Pathë Haarlem. I am really anticipating to watch the movie as soon as possible after I have read the book just this past weeks knowing that it will be on the cinema. I told them that this movie has a high rating already like the book. At first they are like, “Ok we will watch it and we will see what kind of movie is it, but men it is 142 minutes? That is like 2 and half hours”. I keep on telling them that it is not bad as what you think and I kept saying that I hope they will too like it.

Me "looking so excited" to watch the movie with our friend Bhuvan

After 2 and half hours of watching and finishing all the popcorns, they told me that the movie was nice and really didn’t feel that the movie was that long. It wasn’t the movie that they were thinking of. They told me it’s kinda different and they like the action. I was very glad to hear that because I am like addicted to Hunger Games already and wanting more of it. My boyfriend is now eager to read the book to know what really happened in the book. He is also curious on what would be the next step for Katniss and Peeta.

For me on my side when I saw the movie, I thought like there are some parts that are missing in the story. I wouldn’t blame the makers of the movie because they really did a good job on creating the film almost the same as what it is stated in the book. They actually did an excellent work. They did some alterations but they got it straight to the point. That is how I like the movie. They made my imagination into a reality. They filled my heart with excitement. There are times when I knew what is going to happen, I was holding the hand of my boyfriend and pushing him constantly because of the incoming scene. He was beaten by me during the movie for being so thrilled about what I will soon expect to see. He is like, “Jam  don’t kill me :P” and the movie just goes on.

With this movie I would give 9 out of 10. I loved how they tried their best to at least almost copy the book. Shaky cam is used a bit much but yeah, it fits well. I love the chosen characters, they really have the attitude to be like the characters in the book. It actually gave me  goosebumps seeing the tributes on the parade and almost made me cry when I saw Rue’s scene. For me they are effective. Now I cannot wait to see Catching Fire next year. I would really watch the sequel.
